The Navy is rolling out a redesigned evaluation system for officers pursuing admiral-level positions that combines virtual and in-person components. This initiative stems from a Pentagon-wide effort to assess colonels and Navy captains using methods different from the traditional selection board approach.
Navy captains competing for rear admiral promotion will now participate in a Joint Warfighter Evaluation format alongside or in place of conventional boards. The full scoring methodology, weighting criteria, and implementation timeline remain under development and have not been released publicly.
