If you can’t find housing on post or just would rather live in the surrounding area, you’ll qualify for Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). BAH is given out every month based on rank and zip code. It’s based on a formula that takes into account the cost of living in the neighborhoods around the post and the likely age and seniority of the soldier applying. BAH is a great way to cut down on housing costs if you can get it.
