FORT GREELY ALASKA HOUSING: ON-POST OPTIONS

Introduction

Welcome to your new home at Fort Greely, located 5 miles outside of Delta Junction in Alaska. You’ll be located about 100 miles away from Fairbanks and 350 miles away from Anchorage in this remote posting. Fort Greely serves as the primary support for a host of tenants that support the Ground-based Midcourse Defense. Fort Greely is a small base, and most places on post are accessible with a short 10-minute walk. You’ll enjoy the community around Fort Greely mostly located in Delta Junction. The small community is made up of residential and farming residents that are military-friendly, welcoming you to the area as you settle into your new home. Fort Greely Barracks

At Fort Greely, unaccompanied housing is available to single Soldiers in pay grades E1-E5. Unaccompanied Soldiers of rank E6 will be authorized basic allowance for housing (BAH) at the “without dependant” rate and will be required to find accommodation off-post within the community. All single service members must report to their unit to be assigned barracks space. Any personnel arriving on post after service hours will be assigned temporary living quarters until the next duty day. All Soldiers requiring Unaccompanied Enlisted Personnel Housing must also have a current within 60 days end-of-month Leave and Earning Statement. The Unaccompanied Housing facilities strive to provide a personal residence that creates a comfortable, functional, and well-maintained home with a mission to take pride in the community.

The first thing you will be required to do once you arrive at Fort Greely, even if you plan to live off-post, is head to the Housing Division Office. There you will receive a warm welcome from a team of professionals looking to help take the stress out of relocating. You will get assistance here with all of your housing needs and any information you need on military relocation. The Housing Division Office provides services that will help you with referrals, relocation assistance, guidance for entering a lease agreement, and tenant-landlord disputes.

Military family housing at Fort Greely is privatized. The owner, North Haven Communities, is responsible for maintaining and managing the community neighborhoods. We advise you to contact the Housing Management Office as soon as you know that you are moving to Fort Greely. There, you will receive the latest information about privatized housing and help with the application process from the government housing team. You will also be informed about post-specific policies.

Fort Greely Family Homes at North Haven Communities

North Haven Communities offers a scenic gated community that contains many rental home styles in their neighborhoods with two, three, and four-room floor plans with one or two baths. There are many different floor plans and layouts in this well-kept community. The neighborhood within North Haven Community and the rental houses and apartments come with a set of amenities that will make you feel right at home. Applying at the North Haven Community is similar to living in the local neighborhoods. You will sign a tenant lease agreement, typically for a one-year term. Your lease will include a military clause and a lease termination clause. Rent is paid by authorizing an allotment of your BAH that is paid directly to the property manager. If your family has school-aged children, the housing on post is within the Delta/Greely School District. Schools within this district include Delta Elementary School, grades kindergarten through fifth. There’s Delta Junior High School grade six through eight. And there’s also Delta High School grades nine through twelve. There are no schools on post at Fort Greely.

North Haven Community Amenities

Amenities vary depending on which home you choose at Fort Greely but include some of the following: master suites, ample closet and storage space, updated finishes, fully equipped kitchens, washer and dryer connections, and central heating and air conditioning. Each home includes a garage, dishwasher, refrigerator, and stove/oven. The community itself offers amenities that will provide your family with entertainment year-round. The neighborhoods include parks and playgrounds that are perfect for a family outing right on post. There are also walking and bike paths, a basketball court, sauna, pool, weight room, and you’ll be a short 2 minutes from the post’s gymnasium. Be sure to keep up to date with the community as there are many free community events hosted throughout the year. One of the biggest perks of the North Haven Communities is the absolutely stunning view of the Alaska Range and Granite Mountains. The location of Fort Greely might be remote, but it allows for some of the best views and steps into nature of any posting.
