Your military job is one of the most important decisions you'll make during the enlistment process. It determines your training, daily work, deployment frequency, and civilian career prospects after service. Research your options thoroughly before MEPS.
Tips for Job Selection
Score high on the ASVAB — a higher score opens more doors. Competitive jobs like intelligence, cyber, and medical typically require scores well above the enlistment minimum.
Think about civilian translation — some military jobs (IT, medical, aviation maintenance) directly translate to high-paying civilian careers. Others (infantry, artillery) develop leadership and discipline but require additional credentials for civilian employment.
Don't settle at MEPS — if your preferred job isn't available, you can wait for an opening. Don't let the job counselor pressure you into a role you're not interested in.
