Stationed at Naval Base Point Loma and looking for something fun to do on your next day off, Point Loma does have less on-base recreation facilities than other installations in the San Diego metro area, but it has just as much access to all of the fantastic restaurants and attractions on offer in the city. Start off at the Cabrillo National Monument, with its coastal trails and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. At the tip of the Point Loma Peninsula, this is the site where European explorers first set foot on the United States West Coast in 1542. Families looking for some fun will want to check out the Mission Beach Boardwalk and Belmont Park, an oceanside amusement park with rides, games, and much more. Looking for some adventure? You could go paragliding at the Torrey Pines Glider Port, or you could take an aerial tour of San Diego in a biplane flown by a current or former military pilot with San Diego Sky Tours. If you'd rather keep two feet on the ground, check out the Comic-Con Museum or see a performance at the Old Globe Theater. You'll quickly work up an appetite exploring San Diego, but luckily you'll find no shortage of fantastic restaurants to stop for a bite to eat, like veteran-owned Bonehead Burgers or dog-friendly Daybreak Island Grill. We've barely scratched the surface of all there is to explore in San Diego, not to mention the rest of sunny Southern California. Get out, explore, and let us know what you find!
