Here's what's on the radar in military life this week. The Pentagon organization created to fix military moves could soon become a full-fledged defense agency. That matters to the more than 300,000 service members who PCS each year. Changes are already underway, and ahead of the 2027 PCS season, families will begin seeing new mil move features, expanded booking windows and 24-7 support aimed at making military moves easier. President Trump says the execution of Fort Hood mass shooter Nidal Hassan will not be live streamed, reversing a plan announced by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Hassan is scheduled to die by firing squad on December 3rd for killing 13 people on post in November of 2009. Victims' immediate family members will still be allowed to watch in person. Military voters, if you're planning to vote absentee in the November election, now is the time to make sure your ballot is on track. Service members and families can check state-specific rules at FVAP.gov. And if your requested ballot hasn't arrived, a federal write-in absentee ballot can serve as a backup. And over on Veteran Life, military retirees and other beneficiaries are getting a bigger cost of living adjustment next year. The 2027 COLA is 3.6 percent. That's up from 2.8 percent this year. That means higher monthly payments beginning around January for military retirees, Social Security recipients and other eligible beneficiaries. As always, make sure you follow along so you never miss what's on the radar.
