On the Radar
Here's what's on the radar in military life this week. North Korea has launched another short-range ballistic missile ahead of major U.S.-South Korea military exercises later this month. U.S. Pacific Command says the launch poses no immediate threat to the United States or its allies, but officials are coordinating closely with South Korea and Japan as tensions on the Korean Peninsula remain high. A major veterans package in Congress has hit another roadblock. House lawmakers delayed a vote on the Take Care of America's Veterans Act, or TACAVA, after concerns over how several new veterans benefits would be funded. Lawmakers are expecting to revisit the bipartisan bill when Congress returns in September. Federal investigators are looking into a close call near Reagan National Airport after a commercial jet took off while Marine One carrying President Trump was departing the White House. Both aircraft landed safely, and officials say the president was never in danger. The incident is renewing attention on safety in the busy airspace around the nation's capital. Navy's proposed Trump-class battleship could cost billions more than expected. A new Congressional Budget Office report estimates the first ship will carry a $23.4 billion price tag. That's 55% higher than the Navy's original estimate. And over on Veteran Life, check out our daily brief trivia game. One new military question every day. See if you can keep your streak alive. And as always, make sure you follow along so you never miss what's on the radar.
