On The Radar: Six-Month Conflict with Iran, USS Lincoln R&R, Air Force Football Uniforms

Here's what's on the radar in military life this week. August 28 marks six months since U.S. strikes on Iran began the conflict. Eighteen American service members have been killed and more than 750 wounded, while the Pentagon has put the cost of the war at roughly $37.5 billion. And tensions remain high in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran is now pushing a temporary agreement that would bar military vessels from passing through. Meanwhile, after more than 250 straight days at sea, sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln will finally be getting some time ashore. The carrier will stop in Thailand next week for rest and recovery following its lengthy Middle East deployment supporting U.S. operations against Iran. After 43 years with the same Pensacola-area supplier, the Navy has awarded a new contract to make the Blue Angels iconic flight suits. Virginia-based Aquila International won the five-year, nearly $1.7 million deal, replacing the sewing box, whose owner disputes the Navy's account of why the contract was reopened. College football is back with Week Zero kicking off this weekend, but Air Force is already looking ahead to its October showdown with Navy. The Falcons just unveiled special B-21 Raider-themed uniforms inspired by the Air Force's new stealth bomber.
