Unaccompanied personnel can find housing through the Unaccompanied Housing office. Unaccompanied Soldiers in the ranks of E1-E3 and E-4 with fewer than 3 years of service are eligible for a residence that includes private sleeping rooms, linens, furnishings, and supplies. To apply for WSMR post family housing, contact the Military Housing Office as soon as you receive your orders to WSMR. The MHO team can inform you of the process and notify you of current wait times for housing, if any. For any other information, both accompanied or unaccompanied, on-post or off-post housing, you can check out the Army’s housing website here. Housing on-post is a public-private partnership with Balfour Beatty Communities. The Army manages your housing application and the waitlist. White Sands Missile Range Housing Options
There are four distinct neighborhoods on WSMR with various floor plans and amenities. The community is entirely pet friendly including large breed dogs though there are some restrictions on numbers and breeds. WSMR Housing Amenities Community amenities include:- On-site management and maintenance

Even though some neighborhoods may include all ranks, only certain units within that neighborhood may be available to certain ranks. Though some neighborhoods are open to all ranks, certain floor plans may be restricted to those of higher rank.1. Columbia

E1-E6, O1-O5 This neighborhood has three and four bedroom homes with fenced-in backyards, master suites, patio, two-car garages. It is within walking distance of the community center, the splash park, tot lots, and multiple playgrounds.2. Patriot
Ranks:
E7-E9 This neighborhood features three and four bedroom homes with a variety of home features including fully equipped kitchens, breakfast bar, master suite, plenty of storage space, and two-car garage. This neighborhood is located near the walking trails and tot lots.3. Pershing
Ranks:
All Ranks, military retirees, DoD employees This neighborhood features three bedroom homes including a garage, patio, and central air. It is within walking distance to the White Sands Elementary and Middle Schools, with easy access to the playgrounds and athletic fields.4. Trinity
Ranks:
All Ranks, military retirees, DoD employees This neighborhood features three and four bedroom homes that include an open floor plan, fenced-in backyard, and master suite. This neighborhood is located within easy walking distance of the recreational trails, playgrounds and tot lots, and the WSMR Youth Center.Conclusion
When you’re moving every few years with the military, buying a home may not be the right choice for you. Likewise, if you’re stationed somewhere that is fairly remote like WSMR, you may want to stay on post to take advantage of the post amenities.
