At Edwards AFB, unaccompanied housing is available to enlisted ranks E-1 to E-3 and E-4 with less than 3 years of service. For unaccompanied Airmen of rank E-4 with greater than 3 years of service, they may find housing in the local community. All single service members must report to their unit to be assigned barracks space. Any personnel arriving on base after service hours will be assigned temporary living quarters until the next duty day. A private sleeping room, furnishings, bed linens, and supplies required for comfortable living are provided to every Airman. Smoking is allowed only in designated areas, and there are no pets allowed in the barracks. Amenities include kitchenettes or central kitchens, and in all dormitories, day rooms with large-screen televisions. The dormitories also feature the Higher Grounds Cafe that offers a comfortable area to relax and socialize. It provides wireless internet service, computer games, and beverage/snack services. The dorm campus also includes other amenities like basketball, volleyball, and roller hockey courts. The Unaccompanied Housing facilities strive to provide a personal residence that creates a comfortable, functional, and well-maintained home with a mission to take pride in the community.

Applying here is similar to living in the local community. You will sign a tenant lease agreement, typically for a one-year term. Your lease will include a military clause and a lease termination clause. Rent is paid by authorizing an allotment of your BAH that is paid directly to the property manager. If your family has school-aged children, the housing on base is within the Muroc Joint Unified School District. Edwards AFB includes schools on base as well. For children in Kindergarten through 6th grade, they will attend Irving L Branch Elementary School on base. For 7th through 12-grade students, they will attend Desert Junior-Senior High School.
