At Fort Detrick, unaccompanied housing is available to single Soldiers in pay grades E1-E5. Unaccompanied Soldiers of rank E6 will be authorized basic allowance for housing (BAH) at the “without dependant” rate and will be required to find housing off-post within the community. All single service members must report to their unit to be assigned barracks space. Any personnel arriving on post after service hours will be assigned temporary living quarters until the next duty day. All Soldiers requiring Unaccompanied Enlisted Personnel Housing must also have a current within 60 days end-of-month Leave and Earning Statement. The first thing you will be required to do once you arrive at Fort Detrick, even if you plan to live off-post, is head to the Housing Division Office. There you will receive a warm welcome from a team of professionals looking to help take the stress out of relocating. You will get assistance here with all of your housing needs and any information you need on military relocation. Military family housing at Fort Detrick is privatized. The owner, Balfour Beatty Communities, is responsible for maintaining and managing the community neighborhoods. We advise you to contact the Housing Management Office as soon as you know that you are moving to Fort Detrick. There, you will receive the latest information about privatized housing and help with the application process from the government housing team. Balfour Beatty Communities offers a scenic gated community that contains many rental home styles in their neighborhoods with two, three, and four-room floor plans. There are many different floor plans and layouts in this well-kept community. Each neighborhood and rental house comes with a set of amenities that will make you feel right at home. Amenities vary depending on which of the neighborhoods you choose at Fort Detrick but include some of the following: master suites, ample closet and storage space, updated finishes, fully equipped kitchens, washer and dryer connections, and central heating and air conditioning. The community itself offers amenities that will provide your family with entertainment year-round. The neighborhoods include parks and playgrounds that are perfect for a family outing right on post. There are also walking and bike paths, basketball courts, and Community Center with a game room and business center. Be sure to keep up to date with the community as there are many free community events hosted throughout the year. Applying here is similar to living in the local community. You will sign a tenant lease agreement, typically for a one-year term. Your lease will include a military clause and a lease termination clause. Rent is paid by authorizing an allotment of your BAH that is paid directly to the property manager. If your family has school-aged children, the housing on post is within the Frederick County Public Schools district. This county has been ranked time and time again as some of the best schools in Maryland. There are no schools on post at Fort Detrick.
