Introduction
Welcome to Fort Leavenworth, "The Best Hometown in the Army." Fort Leavenworth is the oldest continuously active military reservation west of the Mississippi River. Fort Leavenworth's population includes approximately 3,700 active-duty personnel, 1,270 permanent party students, and 2,800 civilian personnel. This historic post is home to the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, known as the "Intellectual Center of the Army." Fort Leavenworth is found on the border of Kansas and Missouri in Leavenworth County, Kansas. The post overlooks the Missouri River. - Take Interstate 29 north to Platte City, Missouri.
- Exit on Highway 92 west. Follow this highway to Leavenworth, Kansas.
From Interstate 70
- Take Exit 224 toward US-73/KS-7/Bonner Springs/Leavenworth.
- Turn right (north) onto US-73/KS-7.
- Drive through Lansing (Main Street) and Leavenworth (Fourth Street).

The neighboring communities of Atchison, Basehor, Lansing, and Leavenworth in Kansas and Platte City and Weston in Missouri provide housing, employment, and other services for Fort Leavenworth military families. The city of Atchison, Kansas, is about 25 miles north of Fort Leavenworth. The riverside city has a population of approximately 10,600 people. There are many options for your child's education near Fort Leavenworth. Kansas offers traditional public schools, as well as public charter schools and private schools. For younger children, there are a variety of local daycares and child care programs on and off post. Children in grades K-9 who live on post may attend schools in Fort Leavenworth Unified School District 207. Children in grades 10-12 who live on post may attend Leavenworth High School in the Leavenworth USD 453 district. There are no DoDEA schools on post. Fort Leavenworth enjoys all four seasons. In the winter, average highs are in the 30s and 40s and average lows hover near 20 degrees.
