Don’t Fear! The Cape Fear River Trail Is the Perfect Outdoor Rec Spot

The Cape Fear River Trail, located in Fayetteville, North Carolina, is a 10-foot-wide paved path open for walking, jogging, or biking along the Cape Fear River. Going on a peaceful, relaxing walk is always a great way to relieve stress and appreciate life a little more, and the trail has all of the elements that make a leisurely stroll or a full recreation outing worthwhile.

The trail is the perfect recreation spot for those stationed on Fort Bragg, as it’s only around 7 miles from the base’s main gate.

About the Cape Fear River Trail

The trail takes you through trees, plants, and wildlife alongside the views of the river. The terrain mostly consists of flat land, but you will occasionally run into some hills. There are also wooden bridges and a 1,000+ foot boardwalk that take you through the wetlands of the trail.

As you walk, jog, or bike along the trail, you will find signs that explain the flora and fauna that surround you. Within the area, there are more than 700 species of plants and trees and 150 species of birds. Some types of animals you may encounter while spending time on the trail are deer, turkey, bald eagles, frogs, lizards, and turtles.

Before you go to the Cape Fear River Trail Fayetteville, NC, make sure you prepare accordingly and are aware of the rules and parking regulations.

  • Cape Fear River Trail parking is available at the Clark Park and Jordan Soccer Complex. Limited parking is available at the Linear Park Trail.
  • The trail is open from 8:00 a.m. to dusk every day of the year.
  • Pets are allowed, but they must be leashed. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.
  • Bicycles are to maintain a speed under 15 mph and yield to pedestrians.
  • Bring plenty of water.
  • Have transportation waiting for you at the end of the trail.

How Long Is the Trail?

The length of the trail is about 5 miles one way. On average, the amount of time it takes to fully complete the trail is about three and a half hours. Overall, the length of the trail out and back is approximately 10.2 miles.

The difficulty level of the trail is estimated to be within the mostly gentle grade category, but the trail does have some steeper sections when going south.

The trail is a part of the East Coast Greenway, which is a series of urban trails and greenways that stretches from Maine to Key West, Florida. When you arrive at the Cape Fear River Trail Park, you will find that it has all kinds of amenities, including a mountain bike trail, playground equipment, green space, historical interest, and a restroom.

Where Does the Trail Begin and End?

There are two different starting points. At the southern end of the trail is the Clark Park Nature Center. The center offers educational displays, live animals, and guided walks to its visitors with rangers and naturalists.

Also at the southern end of the trail, visitors have the opportunity to stop for a picnic on the greens and even enjoy the view of the Cape Fear River Trail waterfall. Near the north end of the trail, you can find the Cape Fear Botanical Garden, which offers educational programs for adults and children, private venue locations, and a serene environment.

The Cape Fear River Trail offers many amenities, beautiful views, tours, educational displays, and much more. The trail is the perfect place for Soldiers and civilians alike to enjoy nature and a bit of fresh air.
