Introduction

Welcome to Little Rock Air Force Base, home of nearly all the U.S. military’s C-130 related training. Little Rock Air Force Base encompasses more than 6,000 acres in Central Arkansas. The base’s population includes approximately 6,995 military members, 1,316 civilian personnel, and 5,582 family members. The base is home to the 19th Airlift Wing, which supports the largest C-130 fleet in the world. Other units at Little Rock Air Force Base include the 314th Airlift Wing, the 189th Airlift Wing, the 913th Airlift Group, and other tenant units. Little Rock Air Force Base Directions

Little Rock Air Force Base is found in Central Arkansas in Pulaski County, next to the city of Jacksonville. It is about 20 miles from the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport.

From Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport

  1. Take Loop 440 north (toward Jacksonville) to Highway 67/167 north to Jacksonville.
  2. Take Exit 11.
  3. Turn left and drive approximately 2 miles to the main base gate.

From Interstate 30 or Interstate 40

  1. From Interstate 30 or 40, take U.S. Highway 67/167, Exit 155, to the air base.
  2. When you reach Jacksonville, take Exit 11 to reach the main gate.

Public Transit near Little Rock Air Force Base

Rock Region METRO provides public transportation services in Pulaski County and the cities of Little Rock, North Little Rock, Maumelle, Jacksonville, and Sherwood. METRO Local provides fixed-route bus service, METRO Streetcar provides rail services in Little Rock and North Little Rock, and METRO Links provides custom paratransit services. Check-in Procedures for Incoming Personnel

In-processing is conducted at the Walters Community Support Center at 940 Arnold Drive. This center houses the Combat Airlift Welcome Center, as well as other base offices that conduct in-processing appointments with incoming personnel. Appointments for in-processing are made in coordination with sponsors and need to be accomplished within 72 hours of arrival. A newcomers orientation provides briefings about support services at the base and spouses are encouraged to attend. Incoming military personnel should report to their individual commands and units as well as their sponsor for additional in-processing information.

Cities Near Little Rock Air Force Base

Cabot

Cabot, in Lonoke County, is northeast of Little Rock Air Force Base. This city has a population of approximately 26,000 people. The city is home to several parks, two sport complexes with athletic fields and facilities, two aquatic facilities, a fitness center, a golf club, and other recreational facilities.

Jacksonville

The city of Jacksonville is just south of the post in Pulaski County. It is home to approximately 28,000 people. This growing city has parks, trails, playgrounds, athletic fields and courts, pools, a water park, and more. The city is also home to the Jacksonville Museum of Military History and the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation Shooting Sports Complex.

Little Rock

Little Rock is the state’s capital and largest municipality, with a population of more than 197,000 people. Little Rock is southwest of the base in Pulaski County. The city has an ideal mix of urban and suburban living, with a bustling downtown and River Market District. In Little Rock you can visit the zoo, watch a ballet, listen to the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, admire art galleries, and so much more. Little Rock is also home to the William J. Clinton Presidential Center, which has one of the largest archival collections in American presidential history.

North Little Rock

North Little Rock, also in Pulaski County, is southwest of Little Rock Air Force Base. This city has a population of approximately 65,900 people. North Little Rock is home to the Arkansas Travelers Minor League Baseball team, the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum, and historic downtown Argenta, with its River Rail Streetcar, entertainment venues, and restaurants. Another historic hot spot is the Old Mill, in T.R. Pugh Memorial Park. This re-creation of an 1880's water-powered grist mill is in the opening scenes of "Gone with the Wind." North Little Rock is connected to additional attractions in the state via the 88-mile Arkansas River Trail System, which links dozens of parks, six museums, and more than 5,000 acres of parkland. There are many options for your child’s education near Little Rock Air Force Base. The state offers traditional public schools, as well as public charter schools and private schools. For younger children, there are a variety of local daycares and child care programs on and off base. Little Rock Air Force Base has one school on base: the Jacksonville Lighthouse Charter School – Flightline Upper Academy. This charter school serves children in fifth through eighth grades. Otherwise, children who live on base attend schools in the Jacksonville North Pulaski School District.
