Introduction

Welcome to Offutt AFB. First established in 1896 as Fort Crook, Offutt AFB currently has a population of 7,986 active military, 6,212 dependents, 2,764 DoD civilians, 1,157 other civilians, and 26,000 retirees.

From Eppley Airfield

  1. Head northeast on Abbott Dr toward Avenue K
  2. Make a U-turn at Avenue K
  3. Use the left 2 lanes to turn left
  4. Turn right onto Cass St
  5. Use any lane to take the ramp onto I-480 W
  6. Merge onto I-480 W
  7. Keep left to stay on I-480 W
  8. Keep left to continue on I-480 S/US-75 S, follow signs for F Kennedy Fwy/I-80/Des Moines E/Offutt AFB
  9. Keep left to continue on US-75 S
  10. Take the NE-370 exit toward Bellevue/Papillion
  11. Use the middle lane to turn left onto NE-370 E
  12. Continue onto Harlan Dr
  13. Use the right lane to take the ramp to Offutt/Stratcom

  1. Head west on Pacific St toward S 9th St
  2. Turn left at the 2nd cross street onto S 10th St

  5. Slight right to merge onto I-80 W
  6. Merge onto I-80 W
  7. Use the right 2 lanes to take exit 452 for US-75 S toward Bellevue
  8. Keep left, follow signs for US-275/IA-92/L Street and merge onto US-75 S
  9. Take the NE-370 exit toward Bellevue/Papillion
  10. Use the middle lane to turn left onto NE-370 E
  11. Continue onto Harlan Dr

From Greyhound: Bus Station

  1. Head west on Jackson St toward S 17th St
  2. Jackson St turns slightly left and becomes St Marys Ave

Flights To Offutt AFB

More than likely, you will be flying through Eppley Airfield, located about 11 miles from the base, since it is the closest airport to Offutt AFB.

However, you might also be arriving through Lincoln Airport, located about an hour away in the city of Lincoln, Nebraska.

From either airport you can grab Taxi and other car transportation services, such as Lyft and Uber, from the airport to the base.

Entering Offutt Air Force Base and Amenities

Entering Offutt Air Force Base and Amenities

All drivers on base must have a valid military ID, veterans or retiree ID, a valid driver’s license, and a valid driver’s insurance card. Visitors who do not have official US Government identification must enter through one of two gates, the Kenney Gate and the STRATCOM Gate, both of which are open 24 hours. Photo identification, vehicle registration, and building number of your destination are required at the Visitor Center in order to obtain a Visitor Badge.

Check-in Procedures for Incoming Personnel

When arriving during normal duty hours, Monday through Friday, 0730-1630, report to the “Offutt Welcome Center” where you can arrange to meet your sponsor or get directions to your unit. Make sure to bring copies of your orders, all moving paperwork, all personnel records including dental and immunizations records, as well as all school records for any children. Make certain that you report in uniform and be aware that the in-processing procedure can take several days to complete.

Council Bluffs, Iowa is a short drive across the Missouri River. Although the city is across state lines, it’s only about 15 miles from Offutt AFB. There are a variety of local school districts available for children of those enlisted at Offutt AFB: Bellevue Public Schools, Papillion/LaVista School District, Omaha Public Schools, Plattsmouth Community Schools, Ralston Public Schools, Westside Community School District, and Millard Public Schools. Each of these districts and their schools educate children in grades kindergarten through 12.

Most children that live on-base will attend Bellevue Public Schools, which is the fourth largest school district in Nebraska. However, other families chose to live in other neighborhoods off-base, in which case their children might be in the school districts of Council Bluffs, Iowa, or Murray, Springfield, or Gretna, Nebraska.
