Welcome to Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms. MCAGCC Twentynine Palms is the Marine Corps’ largest training installation, covering 1,100 square miles in the Mojave Desert just outside Joshua Tree National Park. It’s home to about 12,500 Active-duty Marines, plus their families and additional civilian workers.
Those stationed at this base will get a one-of-a-kind experience living in the beautiful Mojave Desert. With Joshua Tree National Park waiting for you to explore, and more to do in the local area than you might expect, you’re in for four years of sun, sand (without the surf, unfortunately), high temperatures, and great fun.

Getting to Twentynine Palms
MCAGCC Twentynine Palms is located in Twentynine Palms, California. The nearest cities with airports are Los Angeles and Ontario, California. Palm Springs is also nearby.
Palm Springs, CA
Palm Springs is about a 70 minute drive (60 mi) from the main gate at Twentynine Palms.
Ontario, CA
Ontario and the Ontario International Airport (ONT) are about 2 hours (just over 100 mi) from Twentynine Palms.
Los Angeles, CA
Los Angeles and the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) are about 2.5 to 3 hours (~160 mi) from the main gate at Twentynine Palms.

MCAGCC Twentynine Palms has three points of entry
Main Gate
The Main Gate is located on Adobe Rd. and is the only gate open 24/7. The Visitor Center is located at this game
Other Gates
The Ocotillo and Condor Gates are both commuter gates open for limited hours to support commuter traffic, typically on weekdays between 5:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Coming to MCAGCC Twentynine Palms? Here’s How to Get Base Access
Visitors to MCAGCC Twentynine Palms must fill out and present a valid ID along with a completed copy of the SECNAV 5512/1 Local Population ID Card/Base Access Pass Registration Form at the Twentynine Palms Visitor Control Center.
This form is required for any non-permanent personnel, first-time Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) applicants, newly hired civilians, and new visitors. Welcome Center/IPAC
MCAGCC does not have a single check-in location for all personnel. The installation’s check-in webpage outlines check-in locations and contact information for each unit. As part of the check-in procedures or for other administrative needs, service members will need to visit the Installation Personnel Administration Center (IPAC).

Libraries
MCAGCC Twentynine Palms has two libraries, both of which offer much more than books. With a library card, you can also access digital resources like e-books and audiobooks.
Beyond borrowing materials, the library can also provide access to electronics and equipment like computers, 3D printers, and game consoles, to name a few. If you’re looking for something to do on your off hours or to keep your kids busy, the library also offers programs for children and adults.

Sports
MCAGCC Twentynine Palms has a variety of athletics programs for athletes young and old.
Adult Sports
For adults, seasonal unit-level athletics leagues are offered, typically including baseball, basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer, tackle and flag football. Depending on interest and staff availability, higher level Varsity Sports may also be offered. Additionally, the Adult Sports Program organizes multiple races throughout the year and manages reservations of all athletics fields and facilities on base.

Youth Sports
For kids, the Youth Sports Program also provides multiple participation options. Seasonal basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, and flag football leagues are offered in addition to clinics and camps throughout the year. Leagues are available for children in grades K-8. There is an additional Smart Start program intended to introduce 3- and 4-year-olds to the basic concepts of sports.

MCAGCC Twentynine Palms has four aquatics facilities available for recreational use, three pools and the Splash Park. Throughout the summer, swim lessons are available at the Family Pool. On-Base Housing Pet Policy
Up to two pets (cats or dogs) are allowed on base and in base housing, subject to breed restrictions including: Pit Bulls (American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier), Rottweilers, any Wolf hybrid, or any mix of the aforementioned breeds.
Barnyard or exotic pets (i.e., reptiles, ducks, rabbits, chickens, ferrets, pigs, etc.) are not allowed on base. All pets are required to have a rabies vaccination, and vaccinations for parvo, distemper, and others are strongly suggested.
Off-Base Housing
Housing referral services are available through the Military Housing Office. Housing referral services include providing a list of approved and non-approved apartment complexes and mobile home parks or a list of currently available properties in the local area.

Military Preferred Living Areas
There are two small towns near MCAGCC Twentynine Palms where families stationed at the installation tend to seek homes. Closest is Joshua Tree, a small town about 25 minutes west of base. Yucca Valley is a slightly larger town another ten minutes or so past Joshua Tree. Compared to Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms, Yucca Valley has a wider variety of shops, restaurants, and schools.

Schools and Child Care
There are no DoD schools on MCAGCC Twentynine Palms. All families living in base housing and in the surrounding area will send their children to Morongo Unified Schools unless they choose a private school, homeschooling, or virtual schooling.

Morongo Unified School District
The Morongo Unified School District is a small district serving just over 7,000 students across 16 schools. Niche gives the overall district a C grade, though a few schools in the district score a bit higher at a B- (Friendly Hills Elementary School, Morongo Valley Elementary School, Condor Elementary School, and Twentynine Palms High School).
While this district may not have the most competitive schools academically, those near base are committed to support military families and have received the Purple Star School designation from the State of California for their efforts. These schools include: Condor Elementary School, Twentynine Palms Elementary School, Twentynine Palms Junior High School, and Twentynine Palms High School.
