IntroductionWelcome to Naval Air Station Fallon! You’ll be living in Fallon, Nevada, the county seat of Churchill County and about 70 miles east of Carson City, the state capital. Figuring out your child’s educational needs is one of the biggest priorities during any move. Phone: 1 (775) 426-3808 The Child Development Center offers Monday through Friday care from 6:00am-7:00pm and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The CDC is available for children aged six weeks to five years. The programs are developed to meet the social, physical, emotional, and cognitive needs of children. Care is offered in full day, hourly, or drop in options; fees are determined by family income. Breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack are provided so if your child must stay a bit longer, you can take comfort knowing they are well fed. Be sure to contact the CDC for availability as there could be a waitlist. Before and after school care is also available for children in kindergarten through sixth grade, as well as during non-school days and summer vacation. This provides many opportunities to engage in a diverse set of activities such as sports, arts, and occasional field trips to local bowling alleys or educational tours. A Teen Center, located at Building 980, is available to those ages 13-18. Teens have access to a computer lab, game room, art room, and various other amenities. Occasional events such as dances and pool parties are also offered.

Churchill County School District serves five public schools: three elementary, one junior high school, and one high school. This guide will focus primarily on the public schools in Fallon and the progression through the Churchill County School District system. However, if you live farther from base, there are plenty of schooling options for your family. Lyon County School District covers schools in Fernley, Silver Springs, Dayton, and Yerington.

Churchill County School District’s elementary school is unique in that children will progress from several elementary schools before graduating to middle school. Lahontan Elementary is the first step in that educational journey, teaching children grades kindergarten through first grade. In the 2019-2020 school year, the teacher-to-student ratio at Lahontan was 20 to 1, which falls in line with Nevada’s state average for public schools.

Phone: 1 (775) 428-1996 You guessed it: children progressing from E.C. Best will smoothly transition to Numa Elementary for grades four and five to complete elementary school. Sitting only five miles from base, Numa is the closest elementary school to NAS Fallon.

Phone: 1 (775) 423-7701 Churchill County Middle School is located only 10 minutes from base and serves Numa Elementary graduates in grades six through eight. The teacher-to-student ratio is 21 to 1, about in line with the state average. Students can compete in a number of sports such as basketball, wrestling, and cross country. A Blended Learning Community is available and provides a chance for students to earn high school credits.

Football is offered to those that want to compete under the Friday night lights, and there are 15 other sports programs. More than 20 clubs are available and 11 advanced placement (AP) courses are taught to students with an opportunity to earn college credits.
