Welcome to the Fairborn City School district, home of the Skyhawks! Fairborn has 17 national board-certified teachers—more than any other district in the Miami Valley. We have renovated our high school and middle school science labs and they are the best in the area. We have strong special education programs and gifted programs. Our academic teams at the middle/high school are highly competitive, and we have an outstanding JROTC program at Fairborn High School with academy appointments and millions of dollars in scholarships awarded each year. Fairborn High School is rated “Effective” on the Ohio Department of Education report card and our other buildings are rated “Continuous Improvement.” We continue to strive for academic excellence that will prepare all of our students for success. We welcome you and your children to the Mad River School District. Our school district is a member of the National Association of Federally Impacted Schools (NAFIS) and the Military Impacted Schools Association (MISA). Children from our military families and all families in transition need our best efforts to make the most of their education. Mad River is a diverse, multicultural and innovative school district with a state and national reputation for continuous school improvement. Over the past several years, scores on state and national tests have improved steadily due to strong teacher, administrator, Board of Education support and community collaboration.
The School District
We are justifiably proud of our school system. All seven of our schools are brand new, state-of-the-art facilities. Our School District comprises four elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. It is Mad River’s goal to develop the uniqueness of each child by providing a variety of activities within the school day. Exposure to a rich and varied curriculum encourages children to grow and develop as well-rounded individuals. Mad River offers an outstanding preschool program and Special Education curriculum designed to meet the needs of students with disabilities. We have made a concerted effort to hire the best teachers, principals and support staff possible and have kept our workforce current with best practices through excellent training programs. We stand ready to make this the best school district for all students. Mad River is proud to say that all of their teachers are highly qualified; several of our teachers hold National Board certification. By promoting excellence at every level, we help our students to become leaders, achieve goals and contribute effectively to the well-being of society.
At Mad River, our students strive for excellence on and off the field. The Stebbins Career Technology Education program is commended both state and nationally. Our career education students received close to $300,000 in scholarships in 2008. Our Stebbins Air Force Junior ROTC drill team has been state champs 17 times and national champs five times! It is the philosophy of the Stebbins High School athletic department to provide as many opportunities as possible for students to participate on an athletic team. Athletic programs are a reflection of the district’s desire to bring out the best in our students, parents, school and community. If you plan to transfer to the Mad River School District, your child will be assigned to attend the following schools: (Please note our elementary schools are neighborhood schools. When you register your child, Student Services will tell you what elementary school your child will attend.)
