TRICARE IMPLEMENTS LARGEST DENTAL PREMIUM DECREASE IN RECENT YEARS
This 2025, TRICARE has been improving its services with new offers and at a lower cost. The contractors are ensuring members will not be delayed this year with the TRICARE Dental Program.
"We're excited about the improvements the new contracts will bring in 2025, especially if you get specialty care in the TRICARE civilian network," said Tonya Utterback, referral management subject matter expert at the Defense Health Agency.
The United Concordia will still administer care, offering many members new services and lower costs.
TRICARE's New Dental Contract
TRICARE has brought a new contract, and it has also got three main improvements. Members will find more dentists near them, and they'll be able to choose, including specialists; they’ll pay lower monthly premiums and can now meet with dentists online for checkups, planning their care, and other basic services.
The TRICARE Dental Program is a voluntary dental plan. It's available to active duty family members, National Guard and Reserve members, and their family members. The United Concordia has dentists in all 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The monthly premiums will decrease with the new contract. The monthly premium depends on the sponsor's status (Active duty, Selected Reserve, or Individual Ready Reserve) and enrollment type.
The TRICARE Dental Program Handbook mentions that it is a pay-ahead program. This means members will begin paying the new rates in February for coverage starting in March.

The new and improved TRICARE Dental Program will surely be beneficial for a lot of military families and members. May it be Veterans, Guards, or Reserve, all will be covered. Preventive care and checkups are included.

Unlike TRICARE's medical coverage, which is automatic for every military dependent, TRICARE's dental coverage requires special enrollment. It's important to note that TRICARE dental coverage does not start automatically upon enrollment.
If you enroll in the TRICARE Dental Program by the 20th of February, your coverage will start on the first day of March. If enrollment happens after the 20th, you'll have to wait more than a month for your coverage to begin on the first day of the second month. The contract focuses on improved access to families and offers a big network of dental specialists to ensure that dental care is within every member's reach.
