More than 830,000 eligible USAA members in Florida will receive a share of a $500 million auto insurance dividend after the company said insurance reforms and improving market conditions reduced claims-related costs in the state.

USAA said those conditions allowed the company to return money directly to qualifying members who held Florida auto insurance policies between 2023 and 2025. Payments are expected to begin around June 15.

The average USAA dividend payment will be approximately $760, according to the company, and more than one-quarter of recipients are expected to receive more than $1,000.

USAA’s membership includes Veterans, service members, and eligible military family members. Florida is home to one of the nation’s largest Veteran populations and remains a popular destination for military retirees.

Florida Reforms and the $500 Million Payout

For years, Florida insurers pointed to litigation expenses, fraud concerns, catastrophic weather risks, and rising claims costs as factors driving premium increases.

State lawmakers responded with a series of reforms intended to stabilize the insurance market and reduce legal costs.

In announcing the dividend, USAA said those reforms, along with improving market conditions, helped reduce claims-related costs and created an opportunity to return $500 million directly to eligible members.

The dividend was announced as part of a broader effort by USAA to help military families manage rising household expenses. For many military households, a payment of several hundred dollars arrives at a time when families continue to face higher costs for housing, groceries, healthcare, transportation, and insurance.

Who Qualifies For the USAA Dividend?

Eligibility is limited to qualifying members who held USAA auto insurance policies in Florida between 2023 and 2025. USAA has not publicly released a detailed formula explaining how individual payments were calculated. While the average dividend is expected to be about $760, actual payment amounts will vary among policyholders.

Eligible members do not need to submit an application or request a payment. USAA said qualifying policyholders will receive their dividend automatically. Members who believe they qualify but do not receive information regarding a payment should contact the company directly.

Payments are expected to begin around June 15th and will be distributed directly to eligible members identified by the company.newsroom.usaa360.com/

Not a Refund or Insurance Claim Payment

The dividend is separate from a claim payment, premium refund, tax refund, or government benefit.

USAA says members receiving a payment should not confuse the dividend with an insurance claim settlement or a reduction in future premiums. USAA has described the distribution as a return of value to eligible members tied to the company’s financial performance and current market conditions in Florida.

The company has not announced similar dividend payments for policyholders in other states. USAA also has not indicated whether additional dividends could be issued in the future.

What Happens Next

Payments are expected to begin around June 15th and will be distributed directly to eligible members identified by the company.

The announcement affects hundreds of thousands of military-connected households across Florida. Eligible members are expected to see a direct financial benefit in the coming weeks as dividend payments begin reaching mailboxes and bank accounts.
