About Fort Sam Houston Housing on Base

Your options for Fort Houston housing will come from Hunt Military Communities (HMC), a leader in helping military families find the right real estate option for their needs across the United States.

There are nine communities to choose from and they will also be your main point of contact for things such as maintenance to your home.

Hunt Military Communities

Since 2021, HMC has been managing its Fort Sam Houston Family Housing for families serving at the installation.

It’s a partnership with the U.S. Army that would see HMC take the reins from Lincoln Military Housing for the 925 homes throughout the eight communities available for residents.

Where you live depends on how large your family is along with your pay grade. There are townhomes and single-family homes with two to five bedrooms available.

Who Can Live on JBSA-Fort Sam Houston?

Fort Sam Houston military housing is available to the following groups and their families:

  • Active duty service members
  • DoD employees
  • Retired military personnel
  • Veterans

Keep in mind that while civilians may be permitted, the needs of the military come first. JBSA-Fort Sam Houston is a very active Army post, making housing limited for non-military personnel.

Known for their historic homes, there are several neighborhoods available offering a variety of floor plans and square footage. However, keep in mind that because many properties are historic, the exact size of each home may vary.

Infantry Post

You’ll find historic and non-historic homes available with some properties being duplexes. If your home is a duplex, you’ll have options with carports and an exterior storage shed. The historic homes have detached garages.
