Welcome to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy! Connecticut's U.S. Coast Guard Academy serves as an academic and military community for cadets earning a Bachelor of Science degree in one of nine engineering or professional majors. Graduates of the academy also earn a commission as an ensign in the U.S. Coast Guard. The academy is considered one of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning. As the smallest of all the service academies, it affords cadets a close-knit community during a demanding four years of education that aims to transform cadets physically, intellectually, and ethically. U.S. Coast Guard Academy Directions

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy location is New London, Connecticut. The waterfront campus is found on the banks of the Thames River. Amtrak provides train service to New London. The Cross Sound Ferry provides service between Orient Point, New York, and New London, Connecticut. The nearest major airports to the academy are T.F. Green International Airport in Warwick, Rhode Island, and Bradley International Airport in Hartford, Connecticut. Each airport is approximately an hour away from the academy. Incoming Cadet Procedures

Prospective cadets will attend an orientation program before they report in. The overnight orientation program helps prospective cadets finalize their college decision and prepare to swear into the Coast Guard. Prospective cadets should stay physically fit and medically ready to ensure their success in the program. They should also read the cadet handbook so they know what to expect, how to best prepare for their first day, and how to stay on track at the academy. Prospective cadets also must complete all enrollment forms by the stated deadline.

The academy does not charge for tuition, room, or board. In fact, cadets are paid a salary while they attend the academy.
