Fort Hood BAH

If you can’t find housing on post or just would rather live in the surrounding area, you’ll qualify for Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). BAH is given out every month based on rank and zip code. It’s based on a formula that takes into account the cost of living in the neighborhoods around the post and the likely age and seniority of the soldier applying. BAH is a great way to cut down on housing costs if you can get it. You can follow this link to look up your Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) for your rank and zip code. This will help you create your budget and guide your home search. To learn more about what goes into your military BAH rate, visit our in-depth guide here.

Fort Hood Barracks

The barracks at Fort Hood are located in building 49017. The barracks holds single service member housing for soldiers not yet eligible to move into the surrounding community and that needs to be on post for the healthy operation of the facilities. There are rules for living in the barracks, including limitations on smoking and guests, and regular wellness inspections. You’ll be moderately independent here, but still within the purvey of the chain of command while living within the boundaries of Fort Hood. Fort Hood Housing Office
