South Carolina School Enrollment

To be enrolled in a South Carolina school, a child must be at least 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the school year. A child is also eligible for admission to kindergarten if they have substantially initiated a public school kindergarten program in another state that has a different attendance age requirement from South Carolina. Registration typically requires a birth certificate or other proof of the child’s age and the child’s previous school records and immunization records. For details on South Carolina’s minimum vaccine requirements for children in daycare or school, visit the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control website. Check with the school for additional requirements.
