Introduction

Aloha! Welcome to Marine Corps Base Hawaii. MCB Hawaii, or MCBH, provides forward-based, sustainable, and secure training and operational support, facilities, and services so operational forces can accomplish their mission.
MCBH’s population includes approximately 25,000 Marines, sailors, family members, and civilian employees. The base is home to Marine Aircraft Group 24; 3rd Marine Regiment; 3rd Radio Battalion; 1st Battalion, 12th Marines; Combat Logistics Battalion 3; and other operational units and tenant commands. Marine Corps Base Hawaii Directions

MCBH is found on the island of Oahu. The base is on the windward side of the Mokapu Peninsula near Kaneohe Bay. The base is 15 miles northeast of Honolulu and 20 miles northeast of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. While Oahu is Hawaii’s third-largest island, it is still less than 600 square miles, so you can travel to any part of the island within hours.

The closest airport is Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, which is about 25 miles from the base.

Driving Directions From Daniel K. Inouye International Airport

  1. Head to H-1 freeway west (H-1 Waianae).
  2. Take the H-3 east freeway to Kaneohe.
  3. Proceed on H-3 until you reach the base’s main gate.

Entering Marine Corps Base Hawaii and Base Amenities

Check-in Procedures for Incoming Personnel

Upon arrival, contact your assigned unit and your sponsor for in-processing instructions and information.

Marines should report to their unit before checking in with the inbound branch of the Installation Personnel Administration Center in Building 1043. Call 1 (808) 257-3197 or 1 (808) 257-2197 for more information.

Personnel who are checking in should have a reporting endorsement from their command, original orders (to include web orders), airline invoices, vehicle processing center invoices, and any receipts associated with their move.

The cost of living in Hawaii is high. Rental housing, real estate, and utilities are expensive. Because land is limited on the island, most rental housing is in the multiplex style and floor plans have limited square footage.

Service members who are interested in finding non-military housing in nearby Kaneohe and other Oahu communities can talk to the base’s Family Housing Office. This office has information on local communities, their schools, and Hawaii landlord-tenant codes.

There are several options for your child’s education near MCBH. Hawaii offers traditional public schools, as well as public charter schools and private schools. For younger children, there are a variety of local daycares and child care programs on and off base.

Children who live on base may attend Mokapu Elementary School, Kailua Intermediate School, or Kalaheo High School. Students living in Manana military housing in the Pearl City District attend Pearl City High School. There are no DoDEA schools on base.

The website also has contact information for the base’s school liaison officer, who can provide information and guidance on area schools as well as educational resources for your children.

MCBH has a warm, humid climate. In the summer, the average high is in the 80s. Summer nights cool down a bit, with average lows in the 70s. In winter, the average highs at MCBH are still in the 70s and 80s. Average lows are in the high 60s and low 70s. The base gets about 30 inches of rain annually.
