Branch health clinics and dental services are available at both NAS Oceana and Dam Neck Annex. The Oceana Clinic provides primary health care to active-duty and retired military, their spouses and civil service employees requiring care associated with occupational health issues. The Dam Neck Clinic provides support to active-duty staff and students assigned to Dam Neck Annex. Information on the Dam Neck Clinic is contained in the Dam Neck portion of this guide.

The Branch Health Clinic does not offer emergency services. If there is a medical emergency, please call 757-433-9111 for the quickest emergency service response. Do not come to the Branch Health Clinic if there is a medical emergency, it may only delay the required services.


The Oceana Health Clinic is just inside the main gate in Building 285 on Tomcat Boulevard. Information is available online at


Active-duty physical exams are by appointment only. Routine screenings (i.e., firefighting) are conducted on a walk-in basis. Clearance notices (up-chits) are completed by appointment only. There is no walk-in sick call. Hours are 7 to 11:15 a.m. and 12:15 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 757-953-3776/3779.


Active Duty Clinic, Hornet’s Nest Fitness Center, Building 529. Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (closed for lunch 11:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m.) Monday through Friday. This is an active-duty-only clinic that requires a consultation for an appointment. For more information, call 757-433-1517. The dependent/retirees clinic is inside Branch Health Clinic Oceana, Hallway E; hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (closed for lunch 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) weekdays. Hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday. The yellow fever vaccine is given every first and third Friday of the month, 8 to 10 a.m., by appointment only. Allergy shots are given 7 to 10:30 a.m. and 1 to
2:30 p.m. by appointment only. PPDs are given every day except Thursday after 11 a.m. No appointment is necessary; patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. For questions, call 757-953-3837.


The pharmacy division provides prescription service to active-duty personnel and to all eligible beneficiaries. The pharmacy is open for business 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays. Patients with civilian prescriptions will be checked in at the pharmacy desk until 6:30 p.m. daily. The pharmacy is closed Saturday, Sunday and all federal holidays. The pharmacy at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and Boone Clinic are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Refill service is available by calling 757-953-6337. Refills are available for pickup at the clinic in three business days. Refills may be picked up 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Refills are not available for pickup Saturday, Sunday or federal holidays. Medications not picked up within five working days are returned to stock. We ask for your support in picking up your medication on time, as failing to do so affects yourself as well as other patrons. A limited number of over-the-counter medications are available without prescription. Please report to the pharmacy check-in desk for a request form. These medications are treated as any other medication and are added to your profile to check for drug interactions or allergies. Active-duty personnel in uniform presenting prescriptions are given head-of-line privileges. Our pharmacy is committed to ensuring the health and welfare of our active-duty forces though we are likewise committed to serving family members and the retired community. The Medical Records Division is open 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays to serve active-duty personnel and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for military family members. Active-duty personnel reporting to or detaching from NAS Oceana will report or detach 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. To receive your medical record, please have either a military ID or a family member ID card available. Please keep in mind that without a medical power of attorney, medical records will not be checked out to spouses or any unauthorized patrons.


Hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The primary care provider at Branch Medical Clinic Oceana enters all referrals into the electronic referral system. Referrals take 48 to 72 hours to show in the system. After that time, the appointment has to be within 30 days or the referral will expire. Appointments are booked through 866-645-4584. The purpose of the overseas screening process is to ensure you and your family members are qualified for overseas assignments. Sea duty screening is to ensure active-duty members are fit for sea duty. Time management is essential since this process usually takes a few days to complete and may take a couple of weeks due to different circumstances. It is done on a walk-in basis 7 to 11 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (closed Wednesday and Friday). Upon reporting, make sure you have your medical and dental records and a copy of your transfer orders. We will review your records for any chronic illnesses and make sure there are no appointments pending. Your physical exam must be current and up-to-date. Once the record is reviewed, you will proceed to the laboratory, immunizations and the dental clinic to complete the process. Upon completion, report back to the check-in desk to make an appointment with the screening provider for finalization. For any questions, contact Overseas/Sea Duty Screening at 757-953-3778.


Eye exams and a selection of glasses are available to all active-duty personnel at Branch Health Clinic, Oceana Optometry Division. All patients are seen by appointment. Please call the TRICARE Service Center to schedule your eye appointment at 866-645-4584. Active-duty members are eligible to order one new frame of choice (FOC) each year. Retirees with a current prescription from a civilian doctor are eligible to order one pair of glasses per year in the standard, Navy-issue frame. Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK, a form of laser vision correction) is available to active-duty Navy personnel on a limited basis. If you wish to be placed on the waiting list for PRK, please notify the optometrist during your appointment. Personnel who work in an environment where glasses pose a safety hazard will be given first priority for laser surgery. For more information about PRK, call DSN 524-0555.


Radiology (X-ray) exams are done on a first-come, first-serve, walk-in basis only. Urgent cases are seen first. The hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Special procedures such as barium swallow, oral cholecystogram, ultrasound and computed tomography scans are scheduled by our clinic, but the procedure will be done at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Branch Health Clinic Boone or Branch Health Clinic Sewells Point.


By appointment only: PHAs, pre-deployment physical and post-deployment physical. Hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and 7 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Contact Deployment Health at 757-953-3838.


Hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Civilian prescriptions are honored for tests performed on-site and at military reference laboratories. Please call the laboratory directly at 757-953-3826 to inquire about the lab tests that have been ordered by civilian prescription. Medicare customers are welcomed for laboratory service.


The Health Benefits office is inside the Branch Health Clinic, Naval Air Station Oceana. Hours are 7 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. Monday through Friday. Health benefits advisers (HBAs) provide basic TRICARE information, including how to file a claim, explanation of benefits (EOB) statement, supplemental insurance information and TRICARE updates.

Active-duty claims are bills incurred from nonmilitary treatment facilities (emergency room, etc.). Local providers in the area will file active-duty claims with the TRICARE claims processor. For out-of-area care, be sure to advise the provider to file with TRICARE Region North, Active Duty Claims, P.O. Box 870140, Surfside Beach, SC 29587-9740. Health benefits advisers also act as the debt collection assistance officer (DCAO). The DCAO manages and tracks debt collection concerns of TRICARE beneficiaries. The Occupational Health Division is open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Physical exams for medical surveillance and certifications are performed Monday through Friday by appointment. Civilian employees who are injured at work are seen during normal working hours. The Occupational Health nurse can be reached at 757-953-3772.


EFMP is a program designed to identify family members with long-term health care or educational needs. Hours are 7 to 11 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and 7 to 11 a.m. Friday. For additional information, call 757-953-3768.
