Hawaii – Navy History
The Navy's presence in Hawaii is anchored by Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, the homeport for the Pacific Fleet's surface ships and submarines. Pearl Harbor has been central to American naval power in the Pacific since its establishment in the late 19th century and, of course, was the site of the December 7, 1941, attack that drew the U.S. into World War II. Today the Navy in Hawaii supports fleet operations, maintenance, and logistics across the Indo-Pacific theater.
