Introduction

Welcome to Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia. NAS Oceana is the Navy’s East Coast Master Jet Base, home to F/A-18 Super Hornets. The base, including Dam Neck Annex and Naval Auxiliary Landing Field Fentress, has approximately 10,500 active Navy personnel, about 10,000 family members and 4,500 civilian personnel, making NAS Oceana the second-largest employer in the area. Driving Directions

From Norfolk
  1. Your first approach to the Air Station is from Interstate 64 East or West.
  2. From 64, take 264 West to First Colonial Road, Exit 21A.
  3. Proceed on First Colonial past Virginia Beach Boulevard. First Colonial becomes Oceana Boulevard.
  4. Follow Oceana Blvd for the next 4 miles, passing the Oceana Stables.
  5. The next right will be Tomcat Boulevard, which leads to the main gate.
  6. The Pass and Decal Office is the first building on the right once you are on Tomcat Boulevard and prior to getting to the gate.
From Virginia Beach
  1. Take 264 to First Colonial Road, Exit 21A.
  2. Proceed on First Colonial past Virginia Beach Boulevard. First Colonial becomes Oceana Boulevard.
  3. Follow Oceana Blvd for the next 4 miles, passing the Oceana Stables.
  4. The next right will be Tomcat Boulevard, which leads to the main gate.
  5. The Pass and Decal Office is the first building on the right once you are on Tomcat Boulevard and prior to getting to the gate.

Greyhound Bus

Unfortunately, there are no Amtrak lines that service Virginia Beach. But there are Greyhound Bus stations connected to the Amtrak schedules, and you can get more information on the Amtrak site.

Flights to NAS Oceana

There’s one major airport (Norfolk International Airport) that is within 30 minutes of Naval Air Station Oceana. The next closest major airport is located in Richmond, the Richmond International Airport, about two hours from NAS Oceana.

Entering NAS Oceana and Base Amenities

All drivers on base must have a valid military ID, veterans or retiree ID, a valid driver’s license, and a valid driver’s insurance card. For visitor passes, head to the Pass and Decal Office and sign in.

Check-in Procedures for Incoming Personnel

All reporting personnel must stop at the Quarterdeck, located in Bldg. 230 on Tomcat Blvd. Here you will have your orders endorsed by the station Junior Officer of the Day (JOOD). The Quarterdeck is manned 24 hours a day and can be reached at 1 (757) 433-2366. After checking in with the JOOD, all military personnel is sent to the Personnel Support Detachment located in Bldg. 326 on D Avenue.

NAS Oceana DEERS

The DEERS office is the place to go to apply for your Oceana pass and ID and dependent ID cards. You can also complete the application online to receive your pass and ID. If you lose your card, you’ll need to stop in to secure a replacement for your Ocean pass and decal.

For those stationed at NAS Oceana, expect to enjoy all four seasons. Virginia Beach summers are warm and muggy with temperatures rising above 80 throughout most of July and August. The humidity is what makes some summer days unbearable for people. On those days, it’s best to stay indoors or hit the beach.
