At your new base at Sheppard AFB, you’ll find that there is no shortage of great indoor and outdoor activities in the area. The wide variety of recreational activities ensures that there will be something for everyone in the family to enjoy. Be sure to take full advantage of the Sheppard AFB 82 FSS (82d Force Support Squadron). This organization handles everything on base from child development programs to outdoor recreational activities, such as a trap and skeet range and a driving range.

The pristine golf course at River Creek Park in Wichita Falls measures over 6,700 yards. This course’s challenging layout will certainly provide a great day of golfing for golfers of all levels. River Creek Park Golf Course also offers a pro shop, lessons, a grill and snack bar, as well as a 50,000 square foot practice facility with a driving range, chipping green, and putting green.

This 18-hole golf course is located in the Southeast part of Wichita Falls. The beautiful landscape boasts mature trees, bent grass greens, and Bermuda fairways. Wichita Falls Country Club’s course is 6,917 yards and promises to provide golfers with hours of fun outdoors, regardless of their skill level. Additionally, Wichita Falls Country Club is host to a full practice area with a state-of-the-art driving range, pitching, chipping, bunker play and putting green.

The Champions Course at Weeks Park is an 18-hole golf course with over 7,300 yards of Tifway 419 fairways and Bentgrass greens. The Dallas Morning News ranked The Champions Course 9th out of the top 50 golf courses in Texas under $54 for 2019.

Levitow Fitness Center is located on the Sheppard Air Force Base and offers state-of-the-art weight rooms, cardio equipment, saunas, racquetball courts, basketball courts, outdoor multi-functional fitness pads, and more. The Levitow Fitness Center also has a family fitness area, a rock climbing room, a multi-functional fitness room, and offers after-hours access for eligible cardholders. Free group fitness classes are offered daily, and there are fitness-on-demand kiosks available that feature a variety of 100+ instructor-led fitness classes.

Both centers feature state-of-the-art scoring, bowling programs for all skill levels, and a snack bar available day and night. The South Lanes offer open bowling, monthly tournaments, league play, snack bars, bumper lanes, a pro shop, and party/squadron reservations. The North and South Lanes were renovated in 2010 with new lanes, ball returns, masking units, extreme lighting equipment, new bowling balls, and more. The South Lanes Bowling Center was renovated again in 2016 —along with other renovations, the restrooms were made handicap accessible.

Sheppard AFB Bowling Centers have been named best in the Air Force multiple times. The River Bend Nature Center is a 20-acre nonprofit environmental education facility that exists to connect visitors to nature through educational activities, environmental awareness, and conservation examples. Some of the most popular attractions at River Bend Nature Center are the Ruby N. Priddy Butterfly and Nature Conservatory, Peyton’s Place, the Bryant Edwards Learning Center, the River Bottom Forest Trail, and the United Children’s Garden.

Lucy Park is a 176-acre park set along a river with a nature center and trails for hiking and biking. The park also has a large swimming pool, basketball goals, 18 hole disc golf course, three playgrounds, two sand volleyball courts, and a concrete volleyball court.
