LAST MINUTE VACATION DEALS FOR MILITARY FAMILIES

By Allison Kirschbaum

Everyone loves to go outdoors during the summer season, but if you have not yet planned a vacation for the whole family, don't worry—there's still time for your last minute vacation deals. Military families rarely go on holiday due to deployments, PCS moves, or other reasons that hinder the family from having some fun. But that doesn't mean that your family cannot enjoy a little bit of sunshine. There are a lot of ways for you to plan summer vacation deals; all you need to do is be a little bit creative about the places that you will visit; you don't need to be extravagant. Here are some ideas to help you out on your next trip.

Last Minute Vacation Deals to Enjoy

Head to the Beach

Nothing beats the good old beach as the sun touches your skin, the wind blows your hair, and the splash of water to your feet. There is always something about the beach that makes everyone happy and excited.

Not only will this lighten everyone’s mood, but it is also one of the quickest and most affordable ways to spend quality time with your family. If you are fortunate enough to be a drive away at the nearest beach, you and your family can have a quick dip and get some of that vitamin sea.

You can even make and pack some snacks, lunches, or chips to nibble on while sitting or sunbathing by the shore. You may need to pay for parking if there are any fees, but the good thing is, the whole family can have some fun, you can build sand castles, sunbathe, swim, play volleyball and more, just don't forget to apply your sunscreen.

Vacation in Your Hometown

Having a vacation doesn't need to cross a thousand miles; how about going home to visit your hometown?

You can tour the whole family to your favorite restaurant, your hangout place, local parks, trails, museums, and other tourist attractions. If you're into last minute vacation deals, then it is perfect.

You can even have picnics by the parks, and maybe you can bump into some good old friends and catch up.

Go on a Road Trip

If the whole family loves sightseeing, why not hit the road? It's one of the ways to spend the days of summer.

This can be a great way to visit some close family friends, the kid's favorite aunt/uncle, or their grandparents. This is a great way to catch up with close ones and a perfect way to bond with your family. Maybe you can prepare some songs that you can jam on during the drive or play some games like "I Spy."

The good thing is that there are no plane schedules, you will not encounter delayed flights, and all you need to shoulder are the gas and food, which is much cheaper than flying.

Explore National Parks

This is another option for your last minute vacation deals, and you can't go wrong in visiting these national parks. The good thing is there are special rates or annual free passes for service members, so why not use this benefit? The whole family is having fun while you save money from hefty vacation expenses. Just don't forget to bring your own camping gear and some first aid kit.

To get the whole list of national parks to visit, you can go to the National Park Service website and search your preferred category, whether it's battlefields, seashores, parks, lakeshores, or scenic rivers; you have a lot to choose from.

Visit Theme Parks

If you have little ones, then visiting theme parks might be a great option since there are a lot of things for them to do. Plus, there are parks that offer free admission for active troops, and their dependents can take advantage of the free and discounted admission.

As your last minute vacation deals, the family can enjoy various rides, games, and attractions that the whole family will love. Just make sure to wear your most comfy shoes as you might be walking a lot.

Take Advantage of Holidays

Most of the time, the military extends the holidays, making it a great opportunity for families to plan last minute vacation deals. You can easily pick a place that is not too far away, then you can plan the activities that you will be doing. There are plenty of activities that you can set for the whole family. No matter what you choose, as long as the family has a good time while taking a vacation, everything is worth it.
