WELCOME TO FORT STEWART AND HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD
Fort Stewart is in Hinesville, Georgia, in Liberty County, approximately 45 miles from Hunter Army Airfield, which is in the city of Savannah in Chatham County.
Fort Stewart encompasses 288,000 acres, which include seven major drop zones, multiple tanks an armored fighting vehicle gunnery range, helicopter gunnery range, small arms ranges, and three live-fire maneuver areas. Hunter Army Airfield provides additional capabilities for Fort Stewart: The largest military aircraft can land at Hunter, load the biggest equipment in the Army inventory, and then deploy both equipment and soldiers anywhere in the world.
The installation’s workforce includes more than 22,500 people, including 18,500 full-time soldiers and 4,000 Army civilian workers and contractors.

Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield are both a short distance from the Atlantic coastline. Fort Stewart is approximately 40 miles southwest of the city of Savannah. Hunter Army Airfield is less than 10 miles from the very same city.From Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport
- From the airport, follow signs for Interstate 95 south.
- From I-95, take the exit for state Highway 144 (Fort Stewart and Richmond Hill).
- Turn right at the off-ramp stop sign, and stay on Highway 144 through the post.
- Follow the signs to Fort Stewart’s Marne Reception Center for check-in.
Shuttles to the Post
Personnel at the Marne Reception Center can pick up incoming personnel from the airport via shuttle. However, shuttles only run to and from the airport if MRC staff have been informed that there are people who need them. The Marne Reception Center processes all soldiers reporting to Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. You may wear civilian clothes or a uniform when you report to the Marne Reception Center, but you must wear a uniform during in-processing.
When you report in, bring the original copy of your signed DA-31, one copy of the orders that brought you to Hunter Army Airfield or Fort Stewart, one copy of any amendments, your common access card, and a copy of any profile (if applicable).
