Introduction

Welcome to Scott Air Force Base, the global mobility and transportation hub for the Department of Defense. Scott AFB manages global mobility missions around the world, as well as aeromedical evacuation, senior leader airlift, and aerial refueling capabilities for the Air Force and DOD. Scott AFB employs approximately 12,900 military and civilian personnel. The base is home to the U.S. Transportation Command, the Air Mobility Command, the 618th Air and Space Operations Center (Tanker Airlift Control Center), the Air Force Network Integration Center, and other tenant units. These units bring together members of the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. Directions to Scott AFB

Scott AFB is found in southern Illinois in St. Clair County. The base is approximately 20 miles east of St. Louis, which is across the Mississippi River in nearby Missouri. Scott AFB is in the Metro-East region of the greater St. Louis area. To the south of base is Mascoutah; to the north of base is O'Fallon; and to the west of base is Shiloh, Fairview Heights, and Belleville.

St. Louis Lambert International Airport

The closest major airport is St. Louis Lambert International Airport, which is about 40 miles from the base.
Driving Directions From St. Louis Lambert International Airport
  1. Take Interstate 70 east from the airport.
  2. Exit onto Interstate 64 east (Illinois/Louisville Kentucky).
  3. From Interstate 64, take Exit 19A (Scott AFB/Route 158).
  4. Continue straight until you reach the second stoplight (Seibert Road) and turn left.
  5. Continue straight to the Shiloh Gate.

MidAmerica St. Louis Airport

MidAmerica St. Louis Airport is approximately 8 miles from base, but is only served by Allegiant Airlines from a limited number of destinations.
Driving Directions From MidAmerica St. Louis Airport
  1. Take state Route 4 north from the airport.
  2. Turn left to merge onto Interstate 64 west.
  3. From I-64, take Exit 21 toward Rieder Road.
  4. Turn right onto Chocktaw Road. Continue onto Wherry Road.
  5. Turn left onto Old Illinois 158.
  6. Turn right onto Federal-Aid Sec 1845/Seibert Road.
  7. Seibert Road will take you to the Shiloh Gate.

Public Transit near Scott AFB

Check-in Procedures for Incoming Personnel

After you arrive at Scott AFB, report to your unit the next duty day. Your unit will give you guidance on in-processing with the Military Personnel Section. An in-processing video and forms can be found at the Scott AFB finance office website under "Scott AFB PCS In-Processing." A newcomers orientation is scheduled for all in-processing personnel. Spouses are encouraged to attend. The orientation is currently conducted virtually due to COVID-19. Mission partners and personnel assigned to units not in-processed via the 375th MPS should report to their unit orderly room, commander's support staff, J1 (USTRANSCOM personnel), or administrative personnel section during duty hours for in-processing procedures. Where Should I Live Near Scott AFB?

Cities Near Scott AFB

While many military family members call base housing their home, others choose to live in nearby communities. The neighboring communities of Belleville, Fairview Heights, O'Fallon, Mascoutah, and Shiloh provide housing, employment, and other services for Scott AFB military families. Scott AFB is in a moderate cost of living area, so rental housing and real estate is reasonable.

Best Places to Live Near Scott AFB

Belleville

The city of Belleville is about 10 miles west of Scott AFB. The city has a population of approximately 40,900 people. Belleville is home to the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, one of the largest outdoor shrines in North America. More than a million people visit the 200-acre outdoor Marian shrine each year. Belleville also has an art center, a drive-in theater, a dog park, biking and walking trails, and a number of community parks.

Fairview Heights

The city of Fairview Heights is west of O'Fallon and northwest of Scott AFB. This growing community has a population of approximately 16,300 people. The city is home to golfing facilities, a variety of restaurants and shopping venues, and a number of community parks. The 90-acre Moody Park hosts various events throughout the year and has two playgrounds, sports fields and courts, a recreational trail, picnic facilities, and more.

O'Fallon

The city of O'Fallon is located north of Scott AFB. Approximately 29,600 people live in the city. The city has a number of recreation facilities and programs. The 11 community parks feature playgrounds, sports fields, trails, picnic facilities, and more.

Mascoutah

The city of Mascoutah is found east and south of Scott AFB. Mascoutah has a small-town feel, with a population of approximately 8,000 people. Mascoutah has three parks that offer sports fields and courts, pavilions, and playgrounds. Scheve Park features a restored train caboose that can be toured, a dog park, a skate park, a swimming pool, a disc golf course, horseshoe pits, and more. Shiloh

Schools Near Scott AFB

There are many options for your child's education near Scott AFB. Illinois offers traditional public schools, as well as public charter schools and private schools. For younger children, there are a variety of local daycares and child care programs on and off base. Children who live on base may attend schools in Mascoutah School District 19.
