Introduction

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is located a half hour northeast of Dayton, Ohio. It encompasses about 12.5 square miles of land and two runways. The base is home to the 88th Air Base Wing, the Air Force Research Laboratory, the National Air and Space Intelligence Center, and the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Directions to Wright Patterson Air Force Base

Wright-Patterson AFB is five miles northeast of Dayton, Ohio. There are multiple options for traveling, and seven access gates to enter through. So make sure you know where you’re going before you get here.

Public Transportation

Take the X1B Bus from Dayton to Wright-Patterson. It’s a 25-minute ride.

Greyhound Bus

The Dayton Trotwood Greyhound bus station is located at 5136 Salem Avenue. It’s open from 0800 to 2300 daily.

Dayton International Airport

The Dayton International Airport is a hub for flights from several major U.S. cities, including D.C., Philadelphia, New York, Miami, Chicago, and Dallas.

Have your military ID ready at the gate. Your spouse will need their dependent ID card. A driver’s license will also do the trick if you don’t happen to have those cards yet. You might also be asked for your vehicle’s registration and your car insurance, or to show your rental agreement if your car is a rental.

Check-in Procedures for Incoming Personnel

Generally, you should plan to arrive through Gate 12A and report to Visiting Quarters in Area A to check in. If your orders say different, then follow those to check in where you’ve been instructed.

Riverside

Riverside is a city located southwest of Wright-Patterson. As of the 2010 census, there are 25,201 people living within Riverside’s ten square miles. Riverside contains a lot of parks and green space, along with portions of the Mad River. You’ll find a relaxed suburban feel here with a big helping of nature. Riverside is just over a 20-minute drive from base.

Huber Heights

Huber Heights is the third largest suburb of Dayton. It has a population of around 38,000 people. Its 22 square mile territory lies between the Mad River and the Great Miami River. Huber Heights is a hub for the trucking industry and offers a lot of restaurants and fast food options for potential employment. The largest employers are the Huber Heights School District and Walmart. Depending on where you end up in Huber Heights, you’re looking at around a 25-minute drive to base.

Holiday Valley

Holiday Valley is a small census-designated place northeast of Wright-Patterson. The population as of the 2010 census is just 1,500 people. Each district offers K-12 with additional options for early childhood education.
