Introduction

Welcome to Fort Benning. Moving can be very stressful especially if you’re moving across the country or to a completely new place. The good news is that there are a lot of resources available to help make your move a little easier. This guide is meant to help give you an idea of the housing options on Fort Benning and point you towards the resources you need to get settled in your new home.

Fort Benning BAH

Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) is provided for you based on your rank and location. BAH is given if housing on post is not available and you are looking at living in the surrounding area. Fort Benning Barracks

Other than soldiers residing in temporary barracks during their training, there is Single Soldier Housing and Barracks located at 969 Lincoln St, Fort Benning GA 31905 and can be reached at 1 (706) 545-5805. Some of the on-base houses are available to single soldiers as well. Most major units have their own barracks for single or unaccompanied soldiers E5 and below. Contact your gaining unit or sponsor for barracks assignment.

Fort Benning Housing Office

As one of the busiest installations in the Army, high occupancy, and demand, wait times for on-post housing are up to six months. Current wait times can be found here. Fort Benning provides on-post housing for 30% of its permanent personnel and residing on base is voluntary. All service members are eligible to apply for on-base housing. Those who wish to apply can do so upon arrival at Fort Benning by visiting:

The Villages of Fort Benning

Fort Benning has approximately 4,001 family homes available for military families on a post in ten neighborhoods. There are 3,942 located on Fort Benning proper with another 77 located in Dahlonega, Georgia.

Note

: Even though some villages may include all ranks, only certain units within that village may be available to certain ranks.

1. Custer Village

Ranks

: E1-E5, E6-E8, E9, O1, O1E, O2-O3, O4, O5-O6, Single Soldier Consisting of both renovated and new single-family homes and duplexes with fenced-in backyards. The neighborhood features a large pool, splash area, playgrounds, walking paths, soccer field and basketball court, and community center.

2. McGraw Village

Ranks

: E6-E8 McGraw Village consists of single-family homes and duplexes all of which have two-car garages and fenced-in backyards. There are walking paths, a dog park, and a village center with a pool, splash area, and community room. Within walking distance of McBride Elementary School and the Child Development Center.

3. Patton Village

Ranks

: E6-E8, O1E Beautiful single-family homes and duplexes with two-car garages and fenced-in backyards. The neighborhood includes a village center with a community room, infinity pool, and splash area. Within walking distance to EA White Elementary School.

4. Upatoi Village

Ranks

: E9, O4, O5-O6 This village consists of three to four-bedroom homes with two-car garages and fenced-in backyards. Includes playgrounds and riverwalk access.

5. East Main Post

Ranks

: E1-E5, E6-E8, E9, O1, O1E, O2-O3, O4, O5-O6, Single Soldier This area comprises several groups of housing with three or four bedrooms. The neighborhood has fitness centers, walking trails, dog parks, a pool and splash pad, AAFES shoppettes, and local schools all within walking distance.

6. Davis Hill

Ranks

: E1-E5, E6-E8, E9, O1, O1E, O2-O3, O4, O5-O6, Single Soldier This neighborhood offers renovated four-bedroom homes with a single-car garage as well as two and four-bedroom legacy floor plan homes. Located within walking distance to a school, the PX and Commissary, and the new Martin Army Community Hospital (MACH).

7. Indianhead Village

Ranks

: E1-E5, E6-E8, E9, O1, O1E, O2-O3, O4, O5-O6, Single Soldier Located in the heart of Fort Benning, this community offers a range of three to four-bedroom homes in both duplex and townhome floor plans. Amenities include a village center with pool and splash pad, fitness center, soccer field, and basketball courts. The village is within walking distance to restaurants, the child development center, library, and family entertainment center.

8. Bouton Heights

Ranks

: E1-E5, E6-E8, E9, O1, O1E, O2-O3, O4, O5-O6, Single Soldier Three and four-bedroom townhomes make up this village. A school, the PX and Commissary, and Martin Army Community Hospital are just down the street and accessible via walking trails.

9. MacDonald Manor

Ranks

: E1-E5, E6-E8, E9, O1, O1E, O2-O3, O4, O5-O6, Single Soldier This village consists of historic two-bedroom homes with fenced-in backyards. Amenities include a community center with a fitness center, playground, pool and splash area, soccer field, and basketball courts.

10. Porter Village at Camp Merrill

Ranks

: E1-E5, E6-E8, E9, O1, O1E, O2-O3, O4, O5-O6 Located in the town of Dahlonega, Georgia serving Camp Merrill this is three hours north of Fort Benning. The community has 77 single family homes from two to five bedrooms. The village has playgrounds, basketball courts, and a community pool.

Conclusion

Fort Benning is a bustling hub for the Army and waits times can be long but the choices available are worth the wait. On post housing are safe, well kept, and convenient. Ensure you contact the housing office for help in finding housing both on or off post and be sure to keep them updated to any changes in your needs.
