1936

Garrison lineage begins

The garrison's lineage is tied to the 22nd Quartermaster Regiment, constituted in May 1936.

1942

Redesignated as truck regiment

The unit was redesignated in April 1942 as the 22nd Quartermaster Truck Regiment and went on to serve in the Italian campaigns of World War II.

1945

Postwar inactivation

In October 1945, the 22nd Quartermaster Truck Regiment was inactivated.

1951

U.S.-Italy basing agreement

The United States and Italy signed an agreement allowing the U.S. to operate lines of communication across Italy.

1952

Camp Darby dedicated

Camp Darby, the garrison's Livorno-area community, was formally dedicated on November 15, 1952.

1955

SETAF activated

On October 2, 1955, the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force (SETAF) was activated as occupation forces withdrew from Austria.

1963

Missile battalion activated at Caserma Ederle

On October 20, 1963, the 5th Battalion (Sergeant Missile), 30th Field Artillery was activated at Caserma Ederle.

1965

SETAF headquarters moves to Vicenza

The SETAF headquarters moved from Verona to Caserma Ederle in Vicenza.

1973

Airborne infantry joins SETAF

The 509th Infantry Regiment (Airborne Battalion Combat Team) was placed under the command of SETAF.

1985

22nd Area Support Group reactivated

The unit was reactivated in October 1985 as the 22nd Area Support Group, the garrison's direct predecessor.

2005

Becomes U.S. Army Garrison Vicenza

In October 2005, all Area Support Groups in Europe were redesignated as United States Army Garrisons, and the 22nd Area Support Group became U.S. Army Garrison Vicenza.

2013

Caserma Del Din completed

Construction of Caserma Del Din, built on the former Dal Molin airfield site vacated by the Italian air force in 2008, was completed in time to support troop movement from Germany in summer 2013.
