Welcome to Naval Base Coronado! NBC serves as a shore-based platform that provides an undersea operational and training space for a plethora of military purposes. NBC accommodates multiple air, surface, and subsurface commands. Some of them are 16 helicopter squadrons, 2 fixed wing squadrons, two aircraft carriers, 4 SEAL teams, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command squadrons, and many more. Being as the NBC is a consortium of eight Navy installations, they hold:

  • The Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado (NASNI)
  • Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado (NAB)
  • Naval Outlying Landing Field, Imperial Beach (NOLF IB)
  • Naval Auxiliary Landing Field, San Clemente Island (NALF SCI)
  • Silver Strand Training Complex-South, Coronado (SSTC-South), formerly known as the Naval Radio Receiving Facility
  • Camp Michael Monsoor Mountain Warfare Training Center, La Posta
  • Camp Morena, La Posta
  • The Remote Training Site, Warner Springs (RTSWS)

Naval Base Coronado Map and Directions

NBC is located on the west side of San Diego, which is in Southern California. NBC is right next to the coast, close to the US-Mexico border and Chula Vista. These are the coordinates of NBC, as provided by Google Maps 32° 41' 58.7393" N 117° 11' 7.8803" W.

The airport is a short 10 to 15 minute (depending on traffic) drive from the base. Just take highway 75 until it becomes the 5, exiting on 17A. Take West Hawthorn street, then take a right on North Harbor Drive until you get to Airport Terminal Road.

Check-in Procedures for Incoming Personnel

For those who wish to work at Naval Base Coronado, there are a plethora of employment opportunities on base. There are also additional resources for military spouses looking for work if need be. All of this information can be found on the NBC website.

All visitors must enter through the Main Gate. In order to proceed through the gate, you must be prepared to stop and provide your U.S. Department of Defense identification card. Each installation can have different installation-specific guidelines and a list of documents that are necessary to bring with you when you check in, with much of that information being available on their base essentials website.

Base security can provide assistance towards getting to a specific destination, but if more information is required, you are encouraged to contact the Naval Base Coronado’s Visitor’s Center at 619-545-5046.

Naval Base Coronado Gate Hours

There are two gates on base that operate 24 hours. They are both located along SR-75, right where it crosses the bay.
