Dobbins Air Reserve Base History
Named AfterCaptain Charles M. Dobbins, a Marietta native and World War II transport pilot killed in 1943
During World War II, the airfield served as Marietta Army Air Field, where Bell Aircraft assembled B-29 bombers. It became Marietta Air Force Base in 1948 and was renamed Dobbins Air Force Base on Feb. 15, 1950, in honor of Capt. Charles M. Dobbins, a Marietta native killed in 1943. It was redesignated Dobbins Air Reserve Base in 1992 and today hosts the 94th Airlift Wing and Headquarters, 22nd Air Force.
