Coast Guard Academy History
The United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, was founded in 1876 and is the smallest of the five federal service academies. Unlike the other academies, admission is based solely on merit with no congressional nominations required. The Academy graduates approximately 250 officers per year and provides a four-year program emphasizing engineering, science, and leadership. It has continued to modernize its facilities and curriculum to prepare officers for evolving homeland security, maritime law enforcement, and environmental protection missions.

For after-hours lodging, Munro Hall Guest Housing is available at (860) 444-8664. An alternative is the Navy Lodge at Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, available 24/7 at (860) 446-1160.
