NAVAL BASE KITSAP: IN-DEPTH WELCOME CENTER

Introduction
Welcome to your new home at Naval Base Kitsap! The base serves as the host command for the Navy’s fleet throughout the Pacific Northwest, providing exceptional services, programs, and facilities to meet the needs of its hosted war-fighting commands, tenant activities, and personnel. Naval Base Kitsap is the third-largest Navy installation in the United States, and arguably the most complex. It is home to a diverse range of high-value strategic missions, including all types of submarines, two Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, and the largest fuel depot in the Continental U.S. Kitsap is also the home of several research, development, testing, and evaluation commands that ensure the Navy’s technological advantage over the rest of the world. Naval Base Kitsap is in a unique area on the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington state and is a conglomerate of installations at Bangor, Bremerton, Jackson Park, Keyport, and Manchester. The navy base in Washington state encompasses over 12,000 acres supporting more than 70 tenant commands, including Commander, Navy Region Northwest, and Commander, Submarine Group 9. The base is also responsible for Naval Hospital Bremerton.- Where Is Naval Base Kitsap?

Living on the island feels like you’re permanently on vacation, with eclectic boutiques, scenic vistas, amazing restaurants, and an abundance of outdoor activities. It’s small and quaint, with more than 25,000 who call it home. Housing is on the higher end and is scarce but that’s likely due to the great schools and overall higher cost of living in the extended Seattle area. There are year-round outdoor activities, including numerous beaches, parks and trails. Take a stroll through Bloedel Reserve, a 150-acre exquisitely landscaped forest garden on the northern end of the island, or check out the Japanese American Exclusion Memorial, an outdoor exhibit commemorating the tragic internment of Japanese Americans from the island.Bremerton, WA

The city has unique neighborhoods with new and affordable (relatively speaking) housing, excellent schools, and more than 30 parks. Visit the fabulous fountains, public plazas, parks, and memorials around the Bremerton waterfront and Arts District. A few blocks north of downtown is Evergreen Rotary Park featuring the 9/11 Memorial. Nearby Gold Mountain Golf Course includes two 18 hole championship courses and disc golf is available at NAD Park. The peninsula is home to dozens of military cemeteries, memorials and historic sites that honor those who served and died for our country.Silverdale, WA
Centrally located on the Kitsap Peninsula, Silverdale offers scenic trails, award-winning breweries and beachfront hotels with stunning views of Dyes Inlet, Mount Rainier, the Olympic Mountains, and glorious sunsets. Not to mention that it’s right outside the gates of the Bangor side of Naval Base Kitsap. Easy beach access leads itself to tons of outdoor fun, and an array of cool shops, malls, movie theaters and a bowling alley offer plenty of indoor activities, too. The city is full of history with buildings from the 1800s still in use today in Old Town Silverdale.
