Introduction

Welcome to Beale Air Force Base, located in the Central Valley of California. You’ll be located about 40 miles north of Sacramento and near the metro area of Yuba City while still being close to the Sierra Nevadas. Beale is a large base with nearly 23,000 acres of land and supports 4,000 military personnel.

More than likely, you will be flying through Sacramento International Airport. This airport services Northern California and the Central Valley. You’ll be greeted by a variety of modern artworks that make up the decor in the terminal before heading on your way to Beale AFB.

Entering Beale Air Force Base and Amenities

Entering Beale Air Force Base and Amenities

All drivers on base must have a valid military ID, veterans or retiree ID, a valid driver’s license, and a valid driver’s insurance card. All visitors must stop by the Visitors Center located in the Gold Country Inn near the gate on Doolittle Dr.

Check-in Procedures for Incoming Personnel

All military personnel must report first to their squadron’s Commander Support Staff (CSS). Once you do that, your CSS will schedule you for an appointment at the Welcome Center for your processing. You will need these items for your appointment: IDA worksheet, orders and mandates, an envelope from your losing base, any graduation certificates that apply, and all travel receipts. And remember, if you are bringing any dependents with you, bring all legal documentation that applies.

Beale Air Force Base is a large base in terms of land coverage, so there are 5 points of access. For your first time in, it’s advised to enter through Schneider Gate or Doolittle Gate.

On base, Beale AFB hosts one elementary school for personnel living on base. Lone Tree School accommodates school-grade children K-5. Students living on base who are in grades 6-8 will attend the Bear River Middle School and then the Wheatland High School for grades 9-12. There is a bus service for schools off base.

Like the rest of the Central Valley in California, Beale Air Force Base experiences hot summers that are arid with clear skies. The winters can get cold and wet. Over the course of the year, you will rarely see the temperature drop below freezing, but it can get very hot in the summer to temperatures rising above 100 degrees.

Beale AFB is surrounded by things to do not only in the metro area of nearby cities but the great outdoors. The Sierra Nevada mountains are a quick drive east, where you can find plenty of camping and hiking options for the wilderness lovers in the family.
