The Navy offers some great benefits that can help you gain an education. With the recent recession and the ridiculously high cost of most schools, this is one of the best benefits of joining the Navy. The Navy offers things like the NROTC, the Post-9/11 GI Bill, Tuition Assistance, and more. With these programs, college can be pretty much free. They have undergraduate and graduate opportunities available, too! Another educational benefit of the Navy is the Navy Credentialing Opportunities Online (COOL) Program. Through this program, your Navy training can be transferred into certificates and credentials, giving you a leg up in the job market when it comes time to ETS (exit the service) and transition into civilian life. Additionally, the Navy teaches leadership skills in all sorts of environments – valuable additions to any resume.Pay
The Navy offers some of the highest possible total bonuses for joining the branch. To start, there’s a $50,000 enlistment bonus! There’s also special pay for more advanced skills within the Navy, such as aviation, nuclear, or healthcare roles. Hazard pay is also available. All in all, joining the Navy under the right set of circumstances could net you a total of $150,000 in bonus pay. Talk about a benefit!Insurance
One of the most promising benefits of the Navy is their insurance. To join the Navy means to put yourself at physical risk, so they provide Navy Health Care for troops. The Navy also offers life insurance policies through the Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (SGLI) plan and the Family Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (FSGLI) plan. For service members, you can earn up to $400,000 of full-time coverage.Travel and Vacation
Another one of the great Navy benefits is travel. The Navy has over 100 ports across the world. Joining the Navy means seeing sights that no normal civilian has ever seen. Additionally, Navy members receive 30 days of paid vacation time. Being a member of the Navy also means that you can get priority boarding at certain airlines, meaning no waiting in lines or fighting for a spot for your carry-on. Navy members can fly standby with a smaller expense, and they can stay at military facilities while traveling. With 30 days of vacation, priority boarding, cheaper flights, and cheaper lodging, you’ll be able to travel anywhere without having to spend a whole month’s paycheck on expenses!Retirement
If you serve in the Navy for long enough, one of the Navy benefits available for you is a retirement income. Those who serve in the Navy for 20 years are essentially paid to retire by the Navy. This means that if you serve in the Navy starting at age 18, you can retire at 38 with a monthly retirement check coming in. Though the Navy requires hard work and a lot of manual labor, retiring at 38 sounds like a pretty great Navy benefit.Other Miscellaneous Benefits
On top of all of these other great benefits, if you serve in the Navy, you can get some great discounts at stores and other services across the country and online. Some of these discounts even extend to cars! With the recession, this discount can be a pretty big deal. On top of discounts, you can also get free tax preparations through Military Tax Services. MilTax software will be available in 2023. This software to prep and file taxes is completely free for military members, and it’s made to factor in deployments, housing and rentals, multistate filings, combat training and pay, and more. This is definitely one of the best new Navy benefits and military benefits. Though the Navy can consist of a lot of physical labor and requires a lot of mental stamina, the Navy benefits that are offered are pretty great.
